Coffee heaven + new books
I have just discovered the deliciousness of french-press coffee, or anything non-instant. What a difference! And I haven't even gotten the better coffee grounds yet - they're just these $15 packs (pre-ground for press) but after making a batch my whole room smells like a cafe for hours. We're getting a grinder soon - fresh coffee grounds done a few minutes before you brew it .. ooh .. they should be amazing, I'd think. Totally addicted, will never ever drink inferior coffee ever again.
Over the weekend, I purchased 3 books. My record for not spending anything on books lasted maybe 2 weeks tops.
There's a cool section of Asian literature, in Popular @ Ikano .. where they round them all up opposite the classics. I always used to pass by it (the history section is behind it) and it was only one shelf at that time. Now it's grown but it's a shame that it only covers one length - 3 - 4 shelves. Although it's great to see that it's filling up with new titles from time to time.
What did I get?
1. Snakes & Earrings - Hitomi Kanehara
Unfortunately a very very quick read, somewhat of a waste of money because of that - not the content. Been reading it bit by bit throughout the day with a quickie break from time to time, about 3/4 through already and I just started. The writing is very matter-of-fact, which sometimes seems off-putting or empty.
2. Hard-Boiled/Hard Luck - Banana Yoshimoto
I actually wanted Kitchen because it is most recommended but couldn't find it. Picked this one up instead - there were others there like Lizard and one other title, which I could get if I like it. Although I'm expecting it to be a very very light-read.
3. In Miso Soup - Ryu Murakami
Have always wanted this, glad I found it.
Next few months will be busy, especially with graphic novels although I *am* trying to pull back a little. I'm one of those readers that sometimes finds it difficult to part with her money if something isn't "worth it" - usually in terms of how long it'll take me to get through it. $50 - 60 for a comic book that I can get through in an hour? Ditto with book #1 or #2 above. Not worth it in that way .. so trying to hold off as long as I can or hold off for stuff that have elevated the "worth it" status above. Fables is a major exception because they are pretty thick and intensive .. compared to some others I've tried.Y is relatively cheaper, so it's okay .. I guess :)

Coffee! :D We have a drip machine [easier to keep clean, set it and walk away], but I have -never- liked instant. Color me spoiled. =)
You'd think we could go back to bartering.
